hapless sacks of manure

ok, gearing up for the memorial - our annual have to attend.
this is the first year that we will be showing up without having been to meetings in months.
on the last meeting i was cajoled into attending, i was bombarded with the above question.
hapless sacks of manure
Beroean:
Having a difficult time dealing with yourself?
anyone have access to this?
i need it for watchtower comments.
wouldn't it be nice to scoop the talk?.
How can the WT say Judas left before the institution of the Lord's evening meal when this is what Jesus said -
Matthew 26:23 Jesus replied, "The one who has dipped his hand into the bowl with me will betray me." Notice the present or past imperfect participle or whatever the heck that tense is called, namely, WHO HAS. So, if Judas dipped his hand into the bowl, who can say that he didn't in fact eat?
It never ceases to amaze me how the WT can definitely make statements with ZILCH to back them up...as if they were there 2000+ years ago. What chutzpah.
2014 is not too far away except in the minds of the gb elite.. how do you think they will explain away 1/10th of the millenial rule of jesus christ with no paradise?.
do you think they are preparing for a no-show scenario?.
Slim:
Ok, I understand what you are saying...but I think it is beyond 'disappointments', now.
For one thing, the baby boomer generation, which I think make up a big chunk of the borg, are at a time in their lives where they are re-evaluating... so therefore many of them will realize that not just their parents didn't see the end, but they will not either, and probably half, if not more, will opt to smell the coffee and wake up!
Secondly, with more internet exposure, and most of that NEGATIVE, the Witnesses have their work cut out for them. I am hearing of reports from other countries of the hard go they are having in the field, hearing from householders(!) about the pedophile issue, and the resulting discouragement it causes those who still force themselves into the ministry to face this ridicule. At some point, these people will wonder what they are doing 'defending' the corporation, the same corporation that does not give a rat's patooty (love that, from another poster) about them or their retirement prospects, now that they've witnessed away all their full employment years.
Thirdly, the tightening legal noose the Society finds itself in, on ever increasing fronts - blood issue, human rights, tax laws, charity status...I am sure I could expand this list. All those lawyers need to be paid. And the funds to pay them are shrinking.
Add to that the price of gas - I'm sure that is also one of the contributing factors to the lessening of the preaching work.
In my opinion, the biggest change is that the Kingdom Hall, which used to be a place of spiritual refreshment from an oppressive and uncaring world, now appears to be a more onerous and oppressive place, as compared to an ever-more caring global community. When reports come pouring in from around the world about the kindness of people to strangers undergoing disasters such as the tsunami and Katrina, compared to heavily filtered news about close to zero being done for the 'brothers', people sense that there is truly TROUBLE IN PARADISE.
So, I stand by my prediction. The tipping point is coming at breakneck speed. You overseers at Brooklyn, TAKE NOTE!

I am not ALONE!! There's already 2 of us! YAY!!

Here's my prediction. The WT is going to implode before then...if Oprah keeps on with her New World (Ekhart Tolle) forum, and the internet increasingly gains a foothold throughout the developing world, there's not going to be a no-show scenario...they and their prophecies will be a footnote in history... remember, you heard it here first!
With the number of ex JWs just about even that of actual JWs (from what I hear), I think we're heading towards a tipping point. Soon enough it will be more embarrasing to remain a JW than be one of the ones to leave the leaning Tower, and 6 years is about what I think it will take to see it all come crashing down. It will be interesting to see what transpires in the next 2190 or so days - things have a way of gaining MOMENTUM and then, just like the Berlin Wall, you will see the UNTHINKABLE!!! Looking forward to it!
ouch, this is a first.
i forgot we had the co this week.
missed the tues and thurs meetings!!!
Don't sweat it. You didn't miss anything of substance.
I could always count on our CO mouthing off about retirement planning being false reasoning. Or chastising the brothers for working shifts...real upbuilding stuff. After a while, it just felt better skipping the whole degradation talk altogether.
Congratulate yourself on at least spending the time you could have been there in a more worthwhile pursuit. Anything but that...
we're in the midst of a massive de-junking project around here.
before these go into recycling, i thought i'd ask if these are still useful, given that so many years of kms have just been digitized?
i have a complete (i think) set from 10/88 thru 12/96, in one of those ridiculous wt storage boxes.
Burn,
you have me laughing out loud!
it was another dreary ubm birthday.
birthday girl was moping around the house, trying to be mature.
but wait -- hubby came home early with a card (a real one with the evil "happy birthday" words on it) and chocolate!
That's so encouraging to hear! I know I'm thinking of getting birthday cards for my family, and it has only taken almost 6 years to actually do so...so from my vantage point, that is a HUGE step! The blinders are coming off, methinks.
i kind of submitted a 'closure' letter to the local jw's.
i don't actually know if it will be posted - but the local editor has printed all my past letters - and all of them have been far more critical and pointed than this one.
i think he will print it - we shall see.
Absolutely great letter - JUST AS IT IS! Don't change a thing, imho - 'sales-group' is the right description as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes things have to be spelled out in black and white, especially for jdubs to get the point. With more and more views being made public in this vein, I think a lot of them just might finally get it!

All great responses, guys. Thanks so much! Have to sign off shortly....
